One of the beauties of college football is the constant turnover from year to year. Seniors graduate, some leave early for the NFL draft, and the youngsters beneath them take their spots.

For the MSU Spartans, just like any other college football team, restocking talent is key to their long-term success.

With only a limited amount of time, resources and talent, recruiting is a year-round commitment for head coach Mark Dantonio and his staff. The moment National Signing Day is over for one year, the next year's class must be attended to.

While MSU brought in a solid recruiting class, they look to 2007 in order to keep adding momentum. Three straight top-10 finishes have them as a national powerhouse. All eyes are on the Spartans to see how they take the next step as a program.

This year’s class is headlined by the likes of Donnie Corley and Josh King. With holes at key positions, they have the chance to see the playing field.

The Spartans recently brought in a new recruiting operations coordinator. With so much that goes on during the entire process, it’s important for the team to prioritize it.

After one of the best recruiting classes Dantonio has brought to MSU, he looks to keep up the momentum bringing in other top-end talent.

As of now, MSU has two commits for the class of 2017. Numerous others have visits lined up to make the trip to East Lansing. Slowly but surely, MSU is again building up its recruiting class just like last year, when they had many early commits before National Signing Day.

The two commits are tight end Jake Camper from IMG Academy in Florida and wide receiver Cody White from Walled Lake Western High School in Michigan. The two could make an impact on the offensive side of the ball for the Spartans.

Of just two recruits already committed, one thing immediately stands out. Camper plays his high school football down in the southern state of Florida.

While that isn’t noteworthy of a lot of big football programs, MSU stressed “Level One” prospects during their recruitment process this year. “Level One,” according to the program, is to aim to get recruits from Michigan and the surrounding states.

In the 2016 class, only Cameron Chambers from New Jersey strayed away from the “Level One” goal Dantonio and his crew set. MSU had a huge presence in the Midwestern states, putting weight behind their goal. Of the 19 recruits who faxed in their National Letter of Intent, 18 of them came from the surrounding states.

It’s far too early to say anything about Camper and the rest of the recruiting class. The two commits so far, though, are definitely a start.

It’s an exciting time of year for Spartan football fans with spring practice well underway. Recruiting will be in full force once again as the class of 2017 slowly takes shape.
