Week in Review: Jan. 22, 2016

January 22, 2016

Here are the top stories for the week of Jan. 22.

MSU lost its third straight game this week, tallying the first three-game losing streak for the Spartans since 2013. Izzo has stressed to his players to play smarter in games and avoid costly mistakes down the stretch. The Spartans will host the No. 3 Maryland Terrapins, as well as ESPN's College GameDay, this Saturday. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Breslin Center.

Gov. Rick Snyder delivered his State of the State address this past Tuesday and the focus revolved around the crisis in Flint. The governor gave numerous promises on how the situation will be resolved and vowed he will not rest until everyone in Flint has clean, drinkable water. While MSU students and professors found the emotional response from Gov. Snyder appropriate, many felt the logistics of his plans were vague.

The university revealed plans this week to erect a new all-bronze statue of Sparty in the Union. The project has several officials on campus excited, even saying they anticipate the new statue of the beloved mascot will be as iconic as monuments such as Beaumont Tower and the other Spartan Statue.
