Six MSU student startups named semi-finalists in digital media tournament

January 20, 2016

Six teams from MSU have qualified for Student Startup Madness, or SSM, a digital media startup tournament for college students.

The MSU semifinalists include: AddMe, Bringitt, Common Road, EscortMe, Paxton Medical and Roze Incorporated.

MSU has the most teams competing in the semi-finals with six out of 32. MSU presence in the tournament has been the most prominent out of the 25 colleges represented in the semi-finals.

The Entrepreneurial Eight finalists will be selected in late January. The finalists are invited to pitch at the SSM Finals and Championship event.

Different entrepreneurs and venture capitalists are present at the tournament for groups to pitch their ideas to.

According a press release, "each round of the nationwide tournament builds momentum, awareness and social media buzz, drawing attention to colleges and universities as sources for innovation, entrepreneurship and talent while showcasing university entrepreneurship and encouraging college students to start businesses."

The finals take place at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas on March 14.

SSM began in 2012 and has been partners with SXSW since 2013.
