Severe weather across Southern states might affect Cotton Bowl travelers

December 27, 2015

Fans traveling to the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas should be wary of harsh weather that has been striking the southern United States this week.

The Weather Channel has advised travelers to be aware of the following threat areas:

  • Western to middle Tennessee: strong to severe scattered thunderstorms.
  • Eastern Mississippi: strong to severe scattered thunderstorms.
  • Alabama: strong to severe scattered thunderstorms.
  • Western Georgia: strong to severe scattered thunderstorms.
  • Florida Panhandle: strong to severe scattered thunderstorms.
  • Southern states: heavy rains and flash floods.
  • Damaging winds and tornadoes have been highlighted as potential threats in the aforementioned areas.

The most recent case of this severe weather came on Saturday, as several tornadoes touched down and The Weather Channel confirmed at least 11 people dead in the north Texas area, including one tornado that passed right through the Dallas area. The Weather Channel reported that rescue teams are still onsite.

The Spartans arrived in Dallas on Friday, and according to various media outlets, a spokesperson for MSU said the tornadoes in the area did not have any affect on the Spartans schedule and all staff and players are safe.

The Weather Channel's Tornado Central has more information for travelers to be aware of.
