MSU football leads Big Ten with four First Team All-Big Ten offensive selections

Longtime Falcon Roddy White is likely moving on, leaving an open spot at the slot receiver position, where Burbridge might be most effective, as he ran slant routes with Cook to near perfection at MSU. It will all depend on if Burbridge is still there, but the wide receiver draft class is one of the deepest it has been in a long time.</p>

Eight Spartans received all conference offensive recognition, four received First -Team All Big Ten Honors and two received individual awards Tuesday night during a special broadcast of the conference all league selections and awards selections on BTN.

Senior QB Connor Cook took home the Griese-Brees Quarterback of the Year award as the Big Ten’s best quarterback. Cook is top in the league in touchdown passees with 24 this season. He also surpassed former Spartan QB Kirk Cousins for all time touchdown passes and has now tossed 71 in his career.

Cook is also the school’s winningest quarterback as he boasts a 33-4 recorded as a starter. Cook is the school’s fifth first-team all big ten quarterback. The school has not had a first team All-Big Ten quarterback since Steve Juday in 1965.

Senior WR Aaron Burbridge was awarded Richter-Howard Big Ten Receiver of the Year. The Spartans have now won back-to-back receiver of the year awards as then-senior Tony Lippett, won the award last season.

Burbridge has hauled in 75 receptions this season for 1,158 yards and seven touchdowns. He leads the Big Ten in both yards and receptions. Burbridge has collected seven 100 yards or more games this season and is five receptions away from setting a Spartan single season record for receptions.

Outside the individual awards, four Spartans were named to the First-Team All-Big Ten.

Senior center Jack Allen, Burbridge, Cook and junior offensive tackle Jack Conklin earned the first-team honors from both the media and coaches.

Sophomore offensive lineman Brian Allen was named to the second team and senior tight end Josiah Price, to the third team by both the coaches and media.

Senior offensive guard Donovan Clark was named to the third team by the coaches but was named honorable mention by the media. Junior wide receiver RJ Shelton was selected an honorable mention by the Big Ten coaches.

MSU led the Big Ten with four selections to the first team and it was the most for the school since 1978, when four players were also named to the first team that year.

MSU seniors Cook and Burbridge have been quite the connection this year and may break Spartan records as they have at least two games left to play, and possibly a third in the College Football Playoff.

The offensive announcements come a day after senior defensive end Shilique Calhoun was named First-Team All-Big Ten on the defensive side, while sophomore defensive tackle Malik McDowell was named to the second team and junior linebacker Riley Bullough, senior linebacker Darien Harris and junior defensive back Demetrious Cox were named to the third team.

The No. 5 MSU football team takes on No. 4 Iowa Dec. 5 in Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship.
