The holiday season in Lansing will officially begin this Friday with downtown’s 31st annual Silver Bells in the City. The event begins at 5 p.m. and continues throughout the weekend.
Eighty thousand people are expected to come to Lansing. The Electric Light Parade is on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. Joshua Davis, an MSU alumnus best known for being a finalist on “The Voice,” will be the Grand Marshal for the parade and will have a performance at the Lansing Center following the parade and tree lighting.
Mindy Biladeau, executive director of Downtown Lansing Inc. and coordinator of Silver Bells in the City, said Friday’s festivities are great for students.
“If they’re looking for a great night that’s affordable, it’s free,” Biladeau said. “It’s a great expression of community and a great way to kick of the holiday season. Come down and enjoy the festivities. You’re not gonna be disappointed.”
Biladeau said Sparty and the MSU cheerleaders will be making a special appearance in the parade.
In addition to the parade, concert and tree lighting, there will be a shopping village and fireworks show over the Capitol dome, weather permitting, on Friday and Silver Bells 5k on Saturday morning.
Students can take special CATA routes to Lansing or park in City of Lansing-owned lots for free after 5 p.m.
The event will be broadcasted on Fox 47 and WKAR from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“It’s gonna be a great night,” she said. “It’s a Lansing tradition and a state-wide kick off to the holiday season.”
