MSU group to hold open panel to discuss religion in the world

October 28, 2015

Members of MSU's LGBT Christian group Q-cross will look to explore the issue of religious faith’s role in modern life at their upcoming panel event entitled “Faith Engaging the World.”

The event will feature panelists from Lansing's different faith communities giving presentations on the relevance of faith in the modern world followed by a question and answer session.

Despite the LGBT background of the event’s organizers, the event will not center on LGBT issues.

“We don’t always have to talk about the intersection between queer and christian,” Q-Cross religious advisor Jenn Tafel said. “Because sin is off the table we can discuss our relationship with God without debating if we are loved by God.”

“They do not have to talk about LGBT issues, but based on who some of the panelists are it will color the discourse” Tafel said.

Featured speakers include clergy from two local churches and the Islamic Center of East Lansing in addition to faculty from MSU’s Religious Studies and Jewish Studies Program's.

The event takes place on Oct. 28 from 7-9 p.m. in room 105 of Bessey Hall, and is open for the public.
