Peace March held to commemorate International Peace Day

October 1, 2015

The Greater Lansing United Nations Association and the Peace Education Center, in collaboration with many other peace-related organizations and local business, sponsored a Peace March held this past Sunday at Potter Park Zoo.

The premier event was held to commemorate International Peace Day, a United Nation's designated holiday celebrated on Sept. 21.

The event brought various organizations centered around peace, businesses and community member together.

Festivities included a hallmark Peace March led by the Haslett High School Drumline, planting of a "Peace Pole" engraved with eight different languages including Braille and live music and words from various community leaders.

Many members of the community attended the event, and community leaders hope the peace event will become an annual tradition and continue to grow in years to come.
