Steve Patterson was outed as Texas's athletic director yesterday, and a familiar name has emerged as a potential candidate for the job — Mark Hollis.

Hollis was one of eight names on a list of candidates for the Texas athletic director job in a story published by CBS Sports on Tuesday.

This could be mere speculation, as ESPN reported that a search for a new athletic director may not begin until early next year.

Hollis has become known as the thinker behind several innovative college sporting events, such as the Cold War outdoor hockey match and Carrier Classic, a 2011 basketball game between MSU and North Carolina played on the deck of a U. S. Navy aircraft carrier.
