Cinderella to take on Wharton Center stage on Sept. 22

September 17, 2015

Broadway is coming to MSU on Sept. 22 and students and guests to the Wharton Center will be able to enjoy “One Enchanted Evening” in the form of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella.

The classic tale of a chambermaid turned princess will bring exactly what viewers are expecting — wicked stepsisters, a royal ball, a fairy godmother and of course, a glass slipper. But Rodgers and Hammerstein, the legendary duo who also brought shows like South Pacific, OKLAHOMA!, The King and I and Sound of Music have brought a new life to the character of Cinderella.

According to a press release sent by the Wharton Center, viewers will experience a strong, independent woman who longs to fight for her dreams and inspire others to do the same. She channels her strong ideals into helping guide her prince, who is unsure of who he is and who he wants to be.

The show is the first of the MSU Federal Credit Union Broadway Series at Wharton Center of the 2015-2016 season.

Tickets are available through the Wharton Center Box Office, online at whartoncenter.com or by phone by calling 1-800-WHARTON. Tickets start at $35, however there are reduced group rates and student rates available.

The program aims to allow students to experience the wonder of Broadway shows in an easily accessible and easily affordable environment. Other shows featured in this year’s lineup include Jersey Boys, Matilda: The Musical and The Book Of Mormon.

The show, which debuted on Broadway in 2013 and received a Tony Award for Best Costume Design and multiple nominations including Best Revival of a Musical runs for just six days in the Cobb Great Hall.
