MSU's Bike Collaborative, partnered with MSU Bikes is kicking off an intervention week next Monday with the intention of making students aware of bike safety issues on campus, as well as getting students to feel more comfortable biking on campus.

The intervention week will begin Sept. 28 and run through Oct. 2.

Reducing the number of bicyclists on sidewalks and the amount of students cycling while distracted are two goals that would improve safety immediately, according to a release from MSU's Bike Collaborative.

Students can expect to see posters, chalking on sidewalks, a new YouTube video and sidewalk signs from the MSU Police Department outlining safety information. Students can also go to the departments website for more safety information regarding cycling on campus.

Another initiative the collaborative is taking through the intervention week includes "positive ticketing" for cyclists engaged in safe cycling practices

Bicyclists who are using bike lanes, avoiding distracted riding, including use of cellphones and headphones, and wearing a helmet will have an opportunity to get ‘ticketed’.

Positive ticketing will include prizes such as Sparty Bucks to be used at any Sparty’s location on campus along with other rewards.
