Severe weather expected today and tonight

June 22, 2015

Expect to see some severe weather in the East Lansing-Lansing area Monday afternoon and night, a meteorologist said.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration meteorologist Evan Webb said thunderstorms are expected to occur in East Lansing for two hours between 2 pm. and 4 p.m., during which isolated damaging winds will be the main concern, with heavy rain and frequent lightning. There is also the possibility of some isolated tornadoes.

After that, there should be a break in the action, Webb said. However, he did say to expect a second round from about 9 p.m. to midnight be more of a concerning time for the Lansing area. There will once again be the concern for isolated damaging winds, thunderstorms and tornadoes, but also the possibility for hail and flooding.
