Spartans fall short of earning a slot in the NCAA baseball tournament
The MSU baseball team was a strong contender for the NCAA tournament but unfortunately didn’t make the cut after losing four of its five last games.
During the NCAA selection show Monday night, four teams from the Big Ten were selected to compete in the tournament. These teams were Illinois, Indiana, Maryland and Iowa.
Illinois and Maryland were two of the teams MSU lost to in their last five games. U-M's baseball team also landed a slot in the NCAA tourney after winning the Big Ten Baseball Tournament.
MSU head baseball coach Jake Boss Jr. told Mlive prior to the selection show that he believed MSU had a good chance of making it into the tournament.
“I believe that we didn’t play our last game of the season (Friday) and I’m excited to watch the (NCAA) selection show on Monday because I think this group should be — and deserves to be — playing in the NCAA tournament.”
The NCAA tournament begins Friday with 16 four-team, double elimination regionals.
