“I just really like his sound,” Osaer said.

Environmental biology and zoology senior Katie Manning was also experiencing her first Chance the Rapper concert.

Manning said she enjoys his music because it is unique from other rap artists.

“I think his sound is kind of different, and it seems like he speaks about things that he really cares about,” Manning said.

Residence Halls Association director of public relations and advertising junior Erica Tackett said RHA chose this music genre based on what students would enjoy.

Tackett said concerts are a great way to celebrate the end of the year and help students to destress.

“Finals are super stressful, we all know, so we can kind of take a break for a night from the library and have a concert,” Tackett said.

She said at a time when students are cramming and focused on classes, a concert invites them to chill out and just have fun.

“We try to cater to them whenever they’re having a difficult time, it’s the middle of the semester or the middle of winter when there’s nothing else to do,” Tackett said.

Since concerts coming to campus isn’t something that’s particularly common at universities, and Tackett said at MSU, they pride themselves on being able to do that.

At this point, she said students expect these big concerts and would be upset if they stopped, so the university is trying to keep that momentum going.
