One-man comedy show comes to Wharton Center

April 29, 2015

“America’s Got Downton” is coming to Wharton Center this Thursday, in the midst of finals review for students.

The play is a one-man show, performed by Luke Kempner, and has been performed in the United Kingdom in front of thousands of people.

Biochemistry senior Shelby Bechler is fan of Kempner’s and can’t believe one of his performances is being brought to East Lansing.

“This show is going to be a blast,” Bechler said. “I’ve heard about the plays at Wharton Center and how good they’ve been, but this is the first show that I personally know about. And it’s awesome that it’s being brought to Wharton Center.”

Public relations manager for Wharton Center Bob Hoffman played a pivotal role in bringing Luke Kempner to Wharton Center and is excited for the debut.

“It ought to be a fantastic show, loaded with comedy,” Hoffman said. “The show is extremely popular in the United Kingdom, and we were ecstatic to bring it to Wharton Center. I’ve been hearing great things about this show for a while, and I’m really happy that we were able to bring it to East Lansing for students and others to enjoy.”

Along with the show’s popularity, Hoffman also said he believes the show can provide students with a comical break from the intensity of studying for finals.

“I certainly believe that people who come and see the show will not be disappointed,” Hoffman said. “Luke Kempner is an absolutely incredible actor who has performed in front of sold-out audiences in the past and superseded expectations. This show is perfect for any students looking for a bit of comedic relief in the midst of their finals review.”

The show takes place 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wharton Center, and all tickets are $40. Tickets can be bought online at the Wharton Center website.
