Impact radio show 'The Guest List' features prominent MSU community members and their chosen playlists

March 5, 2015

The debut episode of Impact 89FM's radio show The Guest List aired last week, with senior guard Keenan Wetzel as the first guest talking about the premiere of his first film, "The Cager."

The show will air every Thursday 7-8 p.m.

Journalism senior and station manager Gabriela Saldivia saidthe show is run by a trusted DJ who facilitates a conversation with prominent individuals in the MSU community. The show also features a playlist of guests' favorite songs.

Saldivia said the show’s first airing was a success.

Saldivia said Wetzel’s playlist featured rap, folk and everything in between, and he even sang along at one point.

Anyone who missed the first show can check it out on MSU Student Radio’s website.

Upcoming guests include journalism professor Karl Gude, Associate Director of the Izzone Greg Jackson and president of the Black Student Alliance Rashad Timmons. This week’s guest will be Campus Manager of The Black Sheep Addie Lazzell.

“We’ll be putting out shows with a variety of different people ... so we’re excited to see what else can come. It’s cool because each guest brings their own personality with the music that they choose,” Saldivia said.

Saldivia said The Guest List’s return is mostly due to the fact MSU Student Radio is up for tax renewal. She explained that each student is taxed $3 and that’s how the organization is able to function and operate.

In addition, Saldivia said The Guest List aims to create station awareness.

“Sometimes people not in (Communication Arts and Sciences) don’t know we’re here,” she said. “We want to be more accessible to a greater audience.”

Saldivia said students should check out The Guest List because it’s a show that really connects listeners to the weekly guests.

“Listening to The Guest List, people can get a glimpse into the lives of someone they might see around campus. It’s a connection from people on air to listeners,” she said.
