Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, a new natural products grocery store in the style of Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s, will open this year in the renovated Trowbridge Plaza, bringing new jobs and fresh food close to MSU's campus.
The grocery store held a hiring fair last Saturday for 90 positions, however, not all the positions were filled.
37 positions are still available according to SnagAJob.com, where the availabilities for the East Lansing location are posted. For more information visit FreshThyme.com
The store’s close location to campus and large number of positions makes it an ideal job for students looking for part- or full-time work.
Some areas still looking to fill staff are front end, vitamin & body care, bakery and cheese. The openings range from clerk to supervisor.
Clerk jobs ask for 1-2 years grocer experience, and previous experience in natural foods service, but neither are required.
Local developer Kevin McGraw, who is overseeing the $24 million mixed-use redevelopment of the plaza, said Fresh Thyme “will be here long term and is very well financed.”
Ensuring a reliable job turnover possibility for future students, as well as a fresh food option.
Some features of the new Whole Foods competitor are the freshly ground nut butters: peanut, almond and cashew. The butters fall under Fresh Thyme’s “bulk” section, which boasts over 400 items, and also features honey, oils and coffee.
The “pick 6” program allows customers to mix-and-match from their stock of craft beers to create their own custom 6-pack. Fresh Thyme doesn’t sell liquor, but does stock an array of local ciders, gluten-free selections and imported beers. Their wine selection includes organic and sulfite-free wines.
Bread will be made fresh daily in-store. For those who live gluten-free, the store also bakes gluten-free muffins, cupcakes, breads and more.
Fresh Thyme also has “Double Ad Wednesdays." Next week’s ad sales start Wednesday at 7 am, but last week’s sales don’t end until Wednesday at close. A good day to shop for students on a budget.
“The concept behind Fresh Thyme is reaching out and bringing the natural organic lifestyle to the masses,” Fresh Thyme chief executive Chris Sherrell said. “But really it’s the value, it’s the price image, the affordability.”
