Communication Arts and Sciences professor Mark Levy dies after battle with cancer

February 11, 2015

Professor Mark Levy died earlier this week, according to a statement from the College of Communication Arts and Sciences.

"It is with deep sorrow that the College of Communication Arts and Sciences learned of the passing of Professor Mark Levy on Saturday, Feb. 7, after a long battle with cancer," the statement said.

Levy has been a part of the MSU faculty for more than 15 years and before coming to MSU he was the Associate Dean and Professor of the College of Journalism at the University of Maryland. He taught at a number of universities throughout the world. Before that, he had served as a journalist for outlets  such as Newsweek, and co-authored 10 different books and more than 100 refereed journal articles.

The professor was involved in a number of research projects throughout his tenure. One project "focused on the role of ICT in the empowerment of women in developing countries" and also researched the role of technology in facilitating political and social development.

Funeral services are being held today in Philadelphia and a Facebook page has been set up to honor the late professor.
