Head coach Jake Boss Jr. was happy with the way his team performed considering it was the first time they had been on a real baseball field in some time. The coach expected the team to have a few troubles because they have been practicing indoors for a while now but would not allow this to be an excuse.

"There's certainly a lot of things we need to do to get better but we did a lot of things pretty well last weekend, so for the first time being outside all things considered there's a lot of positives that can be taken away from the weekend," Boss Jr. said. "We didn't play great defensive baseball but at the same time its the first time we've seen a groundball on grass since October so not that it's an excuse but you can understand how some things like that might happen."

Looking to keep the strong start going the team will travel to Texas for the UT Arlington Hilton Invitational where they will have another three game weekend. The team will play Houston Baptist (3-0) on Friday, UT Arlington (1-2) on Saturday and Southeastern Louisiana (3-0) on Sunday. 

The Houston Baptist Huskies put up a whopping 36 runs in their three-game sweep of Prairie View A&M, starting their season 3-0. The Huskies have two players that stand out early, senior outfielder Zach Nehrir is batting .538 with six rbis to start the season and junior outfielder Louie Payetta who is batting .500 with six rbis of his own.

The Southeastern Louisiana Lions have a 3-0 with a three game sweep of their own, the Lions had an impressive 18 runs of their own in their perfect weekend against Louisiana Tech. Shining for the lions early are junior infielder Daniel Midyett who has four runs scored, two homeruns and two rbis all while batting .300  and junior outfielder Julian Service who is batting .429 with two runs scored and two rbis of his own. 

UT Arlington is just 1-2 but the team put up 18 runs in their lone win over Stephen F. Austin on Sunday and the team has 33 runs in just three games despite the two losses. 

"(Southeastern Louisiana is) a very competitive group the swept Louisiana Tech last weekend so obviously they're 3-0, they're playing very well.

"As far as UT Arlington is concerned, they played a pretty tough schedule last weekend but (they went) 1-2 and put up 18 runs on Sunday," Boss Jr. said. "Houston Baptist swept the weekend as well they beat Prairie View A&M and put up some big numbers doing it (scoring) 36 runs (over) the weekend."

Boss Jr. considers his pitching staff a strength of the team and they will have to step up this weekend to slow down the competition whose offenses have caught early hot streaks. 

"Positives (so far) would be the pitching, no question about it," Boss Jr. said. "With good pitching you feel like you're going to be in every ball game that you play."
