When thinking about a capella groups the most common thought that comes to mind is Pitch Perfect, but the MSU Accafellas made a name for themselves long before then.
Established in 1996 the group has since then, performed all over the country while still continuing to perform on all parts of campus. They have even performed at The White House and former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm's home.
The group has also consistently released albums of their a cappella covers since 1997.
The Accafellas perform at several campus events along with other events off-campus. Performing is the main focus of the group's attention.
“It is really great to see people loving what we do,” Accafellas director and linguistics senior Andrew Lee said.
As music director, Lee assesses the music and performances of the group while still performing with them.
The all-male group currently has ten members which is the most they have ever had, said Lee.
The group has had an increase in popularity following the release of the Pitch Perfect film. So much so that the group's auditions are at an all time high.
On Saturday February 7, the Accafellas will be competing in the ICCA Great Lakes Quarterfinal at the Pasant Theatre in East Lansing.
The event features other a cappella groups from different colleges in the area such as the Western Michigan University Broncords and Euphoria GVSU .
The demand for a cappella is growing each year for the Accafellas. “People are starting to see that singing is cool,” said Lee.
The group is available for bookings and performances. Log on to their Facebook page for more information.
