Spartans can take a step back from the books this weekend and wander through different sales and exhibits, or grab tickets for one of Wharton Center’s performances during the next coming days.
Here are some events students can attend during the week.
Enchanted Planet Sale

10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Looking to pick up some cool decor for your dorm room? Head over to the Union and browse through collections of tapestries, flags and posters. If you’re looking to amp up your wardrobe, the sale will also feature winter gear, T-shirts and hemp jewelry. Stop by any day this week Tuesday through Friday.
“Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics”
LookOut! Art Gallery, Snyder and Phillips halls
Jan. 26 to Feb. 13
Noon to 3 p.m.
Head up to the LookOut! Art Gallery on the second floor between Snyder and Phillips halls to take a look at the artwork of Justin Randolph Thompson and Bradly Dever Treadaway. Their work provides commentary on the definition of patriotism and how we have come to accept that definition.
The exhibit also compares elements from American folk legacy and African-American struggles with mainstream culture and the ways it has impacted and addressed their oppression.
“Pippin”

Tickets and times are available at the Wharton Center website for the musical “Pippin” this weekend.
A young prince searches to find the meaning of life in this Tony Award-winning production with music by Stephen Schwartz. Head over to the Wharton Center’s Cobb Great Hall for an evening of singing, dancing and acrobatics.
Rodney Carrington: Here Comes the Truth Tour

7 p.m.
If musicals aren’t your style, comedian Rodney Carrington will be making a stop at MSU Jan. 29 as part of his 35-city tour “Here Comes the Truth.”
Carrington will take campus by a storm of laughter as one of the top 10 highest grossing touring comedians in the last 10 years. Tickets are available online.
Reading: Robin Silbergleid
Main Library
Jan. 29
7 p.m.
As part of the larger Michigan Writers Series, which hosts readings and book signings with prominent Michigan authors, Robin Silbergleid will be reading from her memoir, “Texas Girl.” She will also be answering questions and signing copies of her book.
Silbergleid is a poet and nonfiction writer. Her work addresses issues of the female body, infertility and reproductive choice.
