Women's basketball's upset bid falls short

No. 19 Nebraska comes back late to win 71-67

Despite 35 points from sophomore guard Ariel Powers the women's basketball team was unable to upset No. 19 Nebraska in East Lansing, dropping the game 71-67.

MSU is still winless in Big Ten play, and dropped to 8-7 overall.

MSU led 32-30 at the half and was able to hold a lead for most of the second half. Nebraska senior forward Emily Cady completed a three point play, giving Nebraska a 69-67 lead with less than a minute left.

Powers was the star of the night for both teams, adding 11 rebounds to her 35 points.

Nebraska outshot MSU by shooting 45 percent from the field while MSU shot 38 percent, Nebraska also out-rebounded MSU 38-34.

MSU will try to get their first conference win of the season Sunday at Northwestern.
