Some students could be delayed getting back to campus with 150-car pileup on I-94

January 9, 2015

A nearly 150-car pileup on I-94 Friday morning caused one fatality and sent 16 others to local hospitals, according to the Detroit Free Press.

According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, I-94 is currently shut down going both directions in Kalamazoo County and traffic is being rerouted onto Sprinkle Rd.

The pileup involved both lanes of traffic, with cars slamming into one after another for hundreds of yards due to poor road conditions. The accident also involved trucks carrying hazardous materials and fireworks, which went off several hours after the crash.

I-94, the Detroit Free Press reports, will be likely be closed for 12 hours or until early Saturday morning. The closure shouldn't effect most students coming from the area who are returning to campus.
