After one hour and forty-five minutes of public comment, City Council’s motion to keep the Bailey Community Center open until June 30, 2016 failed on a 3-2 vote at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
Council was concerned that leaving Bailey open, which currently services 40 children, would only exasperate the financial problem. Council also wanted staff resource Tim McCaffery to provide more concrete financial figures.
“This is a difficult decision to have,” East Lansing Mayor Nathan Triplett said during the meeting.
Other notes
Council unanimously voted to appoint Robert Nelson to the Board of Commissioners of the Lansing Board of Water and Light for a four-year term lasting from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2019.
BWL recently fired General Manager Peter Lark on the grounds of “just cause.”
Council also recognized the East Lansing boys soccer team on their 2014 Division II District, Regional and State Championships.
