ASMSU approves revisions to iClicker program

January 30, 2015

At the ASMSU meeting Thursday night, new policies were discussed regarding expanding the ASMSU iClicker program, an allocation of $10,000 toward renovations of the Student Services building and an imposition of a $3 tax per student per semester toward the WDBM 88.9FM Impact Radio Station. In all, there were seven proposals made at the meeting.

The current ASMSU iClicker program allows students to rent an iClicker device on a first come, first serve basis. The devices are in high demand, and the program is highly utilized, meaning the devices are all rented very quickly.

Soon, iClicker will establish a registration fee of $6.99 for any student registering an iClicker One model device. The expansion of the iClicker program calls for $15,000 to be allocated toward the purchase of new iClicker devices and payment of the $6.99 registration fee for students.

WDBM Impact Radio Station sent members of its staff to the meeting to discuss the proposed tax on students that would cover their tri-annual renewal fee.

Impact general manager Ed Glazer was there and spoke about the radio station.

"We have radio for everyone, it's not just music. We have specialty shows, we have nightly talk shows and also sports," Glazer said. "I'm the only non-student member of Impact, it's truly student-run. We are also running 24 hours a day every day of the year. I'd like to say we have no peers in that area."

ASMSU Vice President for Finance and Operations Greg Jackson spoke on Impact's behalf.

"I've worked with Ed and I can say they are in a much better place now than the station was six or seven years ago, and I think that speaks a lot about the organization," Jackson said.

ASMSU Director of Public Relations Ava Jacobs outlined and clarified the process.

"All proposals did pass tonight, but they haven't become official yet. Because they were passed tonight, they'll go in front of the General Assembly Friday night and be voted on to become official. Tonight was basically a preliminary voting," Jacobs said.

Julia Christensen is the representative for the Council of Students with Disabilities and announced at the meeting that there will be some changes at Spartan Stadium next fall.

"The school has notified me that beginning next fall there will be accessible seating in the student section for disabled students," Christensen said.

Editor's note: Julia Christensen, representative for the Council of Students with Disabilities, has informed The State News that incorrect information was passed on at the ASMSU meeting and that accessible seating in the student section of Spartan Stadium has not been confirmed yet.
