Political club leaders on edge as results roll in

November 4, 2014

Both the MSU College Republicans and MSU College Democrats have put a lot of work into their corresponding campaigns.

As results begin to pour in, MSU College Republicans President Lisa Jankowski and MSU College Democrats President Brianna Shamsuddoha shared their thoughts on the race thus far.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled right now, especially with all of the efforts we’ve put in,” Jankowski said. “We wish the Schauer campaign the best of luck, but hope we take it.”

Shamsuddoha was driving to Detroit for a campaign party, so she said she hasn’t been able to keep as updated with the race as she would like. She said she is still optimistic and waiting for Wayne and Macomb precincts to all be in before she frets about anything.

“It’s still early in the race,” Shamsuddoha said. “I think Schauer has really pulled it off.”

Both presidents said their organizations have done a lot leading up to the race, but today, especially, they continued to encourage others to vote.

“We worked on reminder calls, finding students that were registered to vote,” Shamsuddoha said. “We asked them if they’ve voted or if they had a plan to vote.”

Jankowski said the MSU College Republicans also spent the day making calls individually.

Together, Jankowski said they staked out the rock at 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 3 and painted it, “Go Green! Vote Red!”

“One of our members stood out there all last night, guarding it, so I’m really proud of that,” Jankowski said.

All in all, both student organizations are looking forward to seeing all of the time and effort they’ve put into the race pay off.
