Neither team was able to break away in the first set, as there were ten different times when the scored was tied in the set.

A kill by sophomore outside hitter Chloe Reinig clinched the first set for the Spartans. Reinig was a force all night, leading the way for MSU with 20 kills.

Oregon State tied the game up with a victory in the second set, 26-24. Like the first set, the second set was back and forth.

Back-to-back Beavers’ kills when the score was tied up at 24 was the difference.

The third set was another nail biter. It looked as if MSU would break away in the set after taking a 20-16 lead but OSU would not go down without a fight.

Key contributions from a couple of seniors were the deciding factor in the third set. Senior middle blocker and outside hitter Jazmine White and senior outside hitter Taylor Galloway combined for four kills in the set.

Galloway finished with a double double, posting 17 kills and 12 digs. White had seven total kills.

Compared to the first three sets, the fourth set was the least dramatic.

MSU jumped out to an 18-11 lead thanks to a kill by sophomore middle blocker and opposite hitter Allyssah Fitterer. Fitterer finished with 11 kills and five digs.

The Spartans would hold on and win the set 25-21, giving them their first win in the month of September.

Defensively, senior libero Kori Moster had a team high 27 kills. Four different players had at least 10 digs for the Spartans tonight.

MSU is off until Friday. The Spartans will host the Auto-Owners Insurance Spartan Invitational next weekend. The invitational features games against LIU Brooklyn, Western Kentucky and UW-Milwaukee.
