September 27, 2014

MSU volleyball (8-5 overall, 1-1 Big Ten) played Purdue (12-2 overall, 2-0 Big Ten) tough on the road for four sets but could not bring home a victory, losing in four sets (22-25, 22-25, 28-26, 23-25).

The Spartans and Boilermakers went toe-to-toe in the first set but a 6-0 run by Purdue when MSU was leading 17-16 was the difference. Purdue won the set 25-22.

Senior outside hitter Taylor Galloway had four kills in the first set. Senior libero Kori Moster had seven of the team’s 13 kills in the opening set.

The second set was much of the same, MSU kept it close throughout but Purdue again made a couple more plays. The Boilermakers took the set 25-22.

There were ten lead changes and 16 ties in the third set before the Spartans ultimately prevailed 28-26. Senior middle blocker and outside hitter Jazmine White won the set with a kill.

White finished with six kills and three digs.

Purdue edged out MSU in the fourth set, 25-23. The Spartans led 23-22 but could not seal the deal.

Scoring was evenly spread for MSU, three players finished with ten or more kills. Sophomore outside hitter Chloe Reinig had a team-high 15 kills, Fitterer had 13 and Galloway had 11.

Defensively, every Spartan who played had at least two digs. Moster led the team with 23 digs.
