Sweet Lorraine’s Fabulous Mac N’ Cheez plans to open its doors by Monday, Sept. 15, offering 14 varieties of macaroni and cheese to residents.
The business was supposed to open this past summer, but needed updates to the building put everything behind schedule.
“It’s just an old building from the '40s that needed to be updated,” Sweet Lorraine’s owner Gary Sussman said. “It’s just like putting together a jigsaw puzzle. We had to make it alright.”
Sussman said that construction is complete and inspections were scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 10.
“If everything runs smoothly, we should be open sometime next weekend,” Sussman said. “We are shooting for Monday, but we don’t want to disappoint.”
In addition to the never-ending options of macaroni and cheese and toppings, the new restaurant will also offer soup and sandwiches.
Sussman added that they will offer delivery to the students, as well as serve as a lunch and dinner place. They plan on staying open later for after-bar clientele as well.
The Mac N’ Cheez location will be gracing the streets of East Lansing soon and taking the spot of Wanderer’s Teahouse and Cafe, which closed last summer, at 547 E. Grand River Ave.
“We have been in the design and construction stage for a year now, so we are excited to finally be opening,” Sussman said.
