East Lansing Parking Administrator Dan O’Connor said that the new parking meters have a technology that will make it easier for administrators to work with.

“These meters have a cellular technology built into them,” O’Connor said. “They can communicate and transfer information regarding financial information and the time people parked.”

These parking meters are similar to the ones on MSU campus — they are powered by solar energy and will accept credit cards.

“They have a more convenient way to pay,” O’Connor said. “Instead of having to have a coin to pay for parking, you can now use a credit card so you don’t have to carry change with you.”

Although these parking meters have an updated technology, O’Connor said the meter rates will not increase.
