Police won't lose sleep over the three home night football games scheduled this fall.
While anticipation rises for the upcoming season, police preparations for game days continue to remain the same.
Activities like tailgating leading up to night games can actually make it easier for police, Capt. Jeff Murphy of the East Lansing Police Department said.
“Sometimes with these night games people have been going strong all day long, and by the time the game gets over they’re done for the day,” Murphy said.
With three occasions for students to tailgate the entire day leading up to games, Murphy said he’s expecting tired students and therefore less rowdy after parties.
Even with the Rose Bowl win, ELPD is not making changes to their enforcement for large crowds at MSU and don’t plan on cracking down any more than usual. Murphy said their preparations are mostly preventive and if large crowds want to take over the street, there’s not much police can do.
“We’re not expecting any type of problems,” MSU Police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said. “Everybody is going to be coming up to support the Spartans, you know, because they won the Rose Bowl and everybody’s excited so we’re just expecting everybody to have a good time.”
