Monday is spring's last yard waste collection day

East Lansing will collect residents’ yard waste on Monday, May 12 at no cost, according to  an announcement on the city website .

This is the city's last no-fee yard waste collection day for Spring 2014, according to the announcement. Special city bags, stickers, and pick-up request forms are not required on no-fee collection days.

The city will collect yard waste placed in paper bags, rigid plastic containers, or bundles at the curb of houses, duplexes, and households with one to four units, the announcement said.

The announcement said yard waste must be at the curb by 7:30 a.m. Monday. City residents are welcome to place waste at the curb after 8 p.m. the day before pick-up.

According to the announcement, yard waste includes "leaves, plant materials, grass clippings and brush/limbs."

Yard waste can be placed at the curb in either paper bags that are 40 pounds or less, rigid plastic containers 32 gallons or less, or bundles up to 4 feet long, 1 foot in diameter and weighing less than 40 pounds.

Twigs and branches can be bundled with string or twine. Single branches can be a maximum of 4 inches in diameter.
