Spartan Marching Band in talks to collaborate with Eminem for ESPN promo

December 6, 2013

If all goes well, the MSU Spartan Marching Band could soon collaborate with famous Detroit-based rapper Eminem.

Band officials got word earlier this week that the rapper might want to have the Spartans play a few bars of music for a promo airing on ESPN near the time of the Rose Bowl.

“It’s an idea that hasn’t been confirmed yet,” Band Director John Madden said. “We are waiting to hear from his people next week about the music we will be playing. We’re waiting on them right now.”

Even though the proposed collaboration is still in the works, members of the Spartan Marching Band are getting excited about the potential of playing with Eminem.

“I don’t think we could be much more excited, especially for Eminem, who’s a Michigan guy,” said Brad Garrod, the band’s president and a computer engineering senior.

“Most of us can’t wait. We’re definitely going to go out there and be who we are and perform to the best of our ability,” Garrod said.

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that Eminem was born in Michigan.
