Aided by strong defense on one end and accurate deep shooting from the other, the women’s basketball team leads 44-21 Colgate at the half.

Led by freshman guard Tori Jankoska’s 17 first half points, MSU shot 50 per cent from both the field and from behind the arc (7-14). Jankoska is 5-7 overall and 4-6 from 3. Redshirt freshman guard Aerial Powers has six points and a team-high seven rebounds, and junior guard Kiana Johnson has five assists.

Jankoska’s hot shooting helped the Spartans go on a 15-2 run to take a 29-13 lead midway through the half.

Thanks to strong post defense and some tough-luck misses, the Raiders mustered only 21.6 percent shooting from the field, 14.3 percent from behind the arc.

Redshirt junior center Madison Williams played seven first-half minutes, hitting two jumpers and showing her sound defensive fundamentals on the other end.

Lansing native and Waverly High School graduate Carole Harris went scoreless and had a rebound and an assist in 10 minutes of action.
