The Spartans took the lead early after a quick three-pointer by junior guard Kiana Johnson and two free throws from redshirt freshman Ariel Powers.

Canisius clawed their way back into the game by hitting back-to-back shots from behind the arch to keep it close.

Then MSU turned on the jets.

The seniors, guard Klarissa Bell and forward Annalise Pickrel, took over scoring eight of the next 10 points for MSU to push the lead to double digits.

The Golden Griffins couldn’t break down the MSU defense much of the time. Jankoska had three turnovers and Canisius shot just 26.7 percent from the floor.

Coming out of a timeout, sophomore guard Cara Miller and Pickrel hit back-to-back threes to give the Spartans a 35 point lead.

Jankoska hit a 3-pointer as time expired to give MSU their biggest lead of the game that they would take into the locker room.

Midway through the period, junior forward Becca Mills went down awkwardly on her ankle and gingerly walked to the locker room. She returned a few minutes later.

Jankoska led MSU with 14 points, Pickrel had 13 and Powers added 10, while Bell was a force on the boards, snatching 6 rebounds.
