Once play resumed following a weather delay at approximately 10 p.m., it didn’t take long for Western Michigan to even the score before halftime.
Bronco quarterback Tyler Van Tubbergen connected with receiver Keith Timmy for a 45-yard bomb down the sideline to the MSU 14-yard line. Western Michigan’s backup passer, Zach Terrell, came in after Van Tubbergen was rattled and threw a touchdown to Clark Mussman to tie the game at 7-7.
With 22 seconds left in the half, junior running back Jeremy Langford punched in a two-yard touchdown to cap a seven play, 69-yard drive for the Spartans. Langford’s run put MSU on top 13-7 after botching the point-after kick.
Maxwell is 11-for-16 passing for 74 yards through two quarters. Cook didn’t re-enter the game after the delay after completing two of six passes earlier for 16 yards. Langford’s 12 carries for 39 yards lead the team on the ground.
