Greater Lansing noticing higher tourism numbers

August 7, 2013

According to a recent report released by the Greater Lansing Michigan Convention and Visitors Bureau, Greater Lansing has seen higher tourism number this year.

The report, which tracked local hotel occupancy rates for the first six months of 2013, said hotel sales have gone from 54.3 percent to 58.6 percent since last year.

Tracy Padot, the bureau’s vice president for marketing communications, said the increase most likely comes from a mix of big local events and increased advertising.

“It’s attributed to increase in sales and marketing efforts, which have been really great,” Padot said. “Also, we’ve had big groups coming in over the last six months, with the Odyssey of the Mind at MSU. In addition to a lot of folks participating from across the world, they bring in spectators: family, friends, volunteers.”

Padot said competitions such as the World Dwarf Games, which are currently being held at MSU, bring visitors from around the world as well.
