Lansing police report only two arrests during Common Ground Music festival

July 15, 2013

With the Common Ground Music Festival wrapping up yesterday evening, the Lansing Police Department, or LPD, was able to end the festival on a good note. Having about 40,000 people in attendance over the seven-day span, LPD public information officer Robert Merritt said there were only two arrests.

“It was amazing, it really went off well and peaceful,” Merritt said. “They were responsible people (and) it was a fun and safe event.”

Of the two arrests, one was checking a subject for a warrant and the other was a person detained for an minor in possession until her parents could get her. Out of the seven days, LPD only received five reports.

Although it is typical for LPD to see a low amount of crime at Common Ground, this year’s festival went especially well, Merritt said.

“It goes to show that people just wanted to have a good time and relax,” he continued. “It was very successful.”
