Four Spartans place in USA and Canadian Track & Field Championships

Members of the MSU track & field team competed last weekend at the USA and Canadian Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

MSU alumna Beth Rohl finished as the top collegiate discus thrower Sunday, placing fourth overall with a mark of 59.66m/ 195-9. The mark was good enough for her to be an alternate for Team USA at the 2013 IAAF World Championships in Moscow, Russia in August.

In her time at MSU, Rohl has set school records in weight throw, discus throw and hammer throw. She was a First Team All-American for the third time in her career for indoor, was named Big Ten Indoor Field Athlete of the Year and was Big Ten Champion in weight throw at the Big Ten Indoor Championships.

Sophomore Tori Franklin finished fifth place overall in the triple jump on Thursday as she recorded a mark of 13.45m/44-1½.

Former Spartan Nicole Bush won the women’s 3,000 steeplechase finishing with a time of 9:44.53. She will advance to the World Championships competing for Team USA. Bush won two Big Ten Conference titles in her time at MSU.

Sophomore Jellisa Westney competed at the Canadian Championships in Moncton, New Brunswick on Sunday. She finished with a time of 24.45 in the 200-meter dash, finishing seventh overall. On Saturday, she recorded a 13th-place finish with a time of 12.11 in the 100-meter dash.
