Update: New gubernatorial contender Mark Schauer didn’t wait long to lambast Gov. Rick Snyder after announcing his plans to run for the 2014 governorship on Tuesday.
“Help send Rick Snyder into early retirement,” Schauer wrote in one Twitter post. And “Rick Snyder has billionaires like Donald Trump and Dick DeVos on speed dial,” in another.
“We need an economy that works for everyone — not just the wealthy and not just the special interests,” he wrote in yet another.
Snyder has yet to fight back with his own Twitter account.

Former U.S. Representative Mark Schauer officially announced his plans to run for Michigan governor on Tuesday.
“I’m in!” Schauer posted via Facebook, Twitter and his personal website. “Today I’m taking the first steps to run for governor. I’m ready to run, I’m ready to work, and I’m ready to win.”
With the Michigan Democratic Congressional Delegation’s blessing that includes support from multiple political heavy hitters such as Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, Schauer is expected to be the sole Democratic primary contender.
Republicans haven’t lost an incumbent governorship since 1948, but Democrats are hopeful.
