E.L. Fire Department responds to small brush fire near Kellogg Center

May 3, 2013

There was a small bush fire outside the Kellogg Center, Friday afternoon according to East Lansing Deputy Chief Troy Brya.

He said the East Lansing Fire Department took the call at 1:36 p.m. and was able to extinguish the fire shortly after. Brya said the cause for the fire was uncertain.

He also said there was no exposures and no witnesses on the scene.

While the cause is still uncertain, Brya said he believes it could have been from a cigarette falsely put out.

“Usually it is from careless smoking,” he said of the fire. “They just throw it into the bushes and it catches on fire. Usually that is how it starts but it is still under investigation.”
