Spartan softball team drops two games this weekend

March 17, 2013

The MSU softball team didn’t have the weekend it was looking for at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. as the Spartans dropped a pair of games on Saturday prior to the cancellation of both games on Sunday.

MSU lost a sloppy 2-1 decision to Wright State (3-13) to begin the weekend. The Spartans’ senior outfielder, Kylene Hopkins, scored MSU’s only run in the bottom of the third, but Wright State tied it up with on an unearned run in the fifth before eventually scoring the winning run on a passed ball in the sixth inning.

Freshman pitcher Dani Goranson allowed two unearned runs in six innings while sophomores Alyssa McBride, an outfielder, and first baseman McKinzie Freimuth each collected two hits in the loss.

In Saturday’s second matchup against Central Michigan, the Spartans fell into an early 2-0 hole after the first inning. Despite out-hitting the Chippewas, MSU lost 3-0 after CMU added another run in the bottom of the fifth.
