MHSAA Basketball tournament draws crowds to Breslin Center

March 24, 2013

Even with both MSU basketball teams on the road for their respective NCAA Tournaments, Breslin Center saw plenty of activity Thursday through Saturday as it hosted the final two rounds of the MHSAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Breslin previously hosted the women’s tournament March 14-16, while the MSU men’s team was in Chicago for the Big Ten Tournament, and the women’s team had the weekend off.

The semifinals were split between Thursday and Friday for both weekends, with the finals taking place on Saturday. All three days saw significant increases in traffic on campus as fans, alumni and the teams descended on MSU.

Breslin Center has hosted the final two rounds of the men’s high school tournament since 1994 and hosted the semifinals for four years prior to that. The final rounds of the women’s high school tournament called Breslin home in 2004-06 and from 2010 on. The current contract will expire in 2017.

For the women, Grand Haven High School won the Class A title and on the men’s side, Romulus High School took home the title in Class A.
