ASMSU, MSU’s undergraduate student government, announced yesterday through Twitter that Hot Chelle Rae will be performing as the opener at Ne-Yo’s April 11 concert at Breslin Center.
“The fact that we got Hot Chelle Rae and Ne-Yo in the same show is really exciting,” said Haley Dunnigan, ASMSU director of public relations.
The student government announced last Friday that hip-hop and R&B singer Ne-Yo would perform during the concert, an effort to boost student participation in ASMSU election week, which starts April 8 and runs through April 15.
Hot Chelle Rae is a pop-rock group from Nashville, Tenn., and is known for hit songs “Tonight, Tonight” and “I Like It Like That.”
Dunnigan said she thinks the two artists will complement each other and will be able to draw a wide variety of fans.
“You might have people who aren’t huge fans of Ne-Yo, but will still come because they are Hot Chelle Rae fans,” she said. “It’s good for us, and it’s good for students because they have another option.”
Tickets went on sale this past Monday, priced at $30 for students and $40 for general public, and can be purchased at the Wharton Center box office, breslincenter.com or by calling 517-432-5000, Dunnigan said.
To get students engaged in the ASMSU elections, the group is considering using promotions, such as free tickets, to increase participation, Dunnigan said.
ASMSU will be holding events during their election week, including a carnival the weekend before the elections begin.
