Carmack pretrial moved to October

Advertising junior Brandon Carmack’s pretrial and preliminary examination have been pushed back to the end of October because of the volume of information in the case.

Carmack’s attorney, Kristina Lyke, cited a 100-page police report she received on Friday when requesting the extension. The pretrial, which was scheduled to take place Tuesday in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court, was adjourned until Oct. 23 at 8:30 a.m., followed by a preliminary examination on Oct. 26 at 9 a.m.

Lyke refused to comment on the matter.

Carmack turned himself in for arraignment Sept. 19 after being charged with one count of filing a false police report of a felony and four misdemeanors. The misdemeanors are two counts of assault and battery, one count of domestic assault and battery and one count of stalking, Ingham County Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III previously said.

The charges follow an investigation involving an assault that took place Aug. 28 in the 600 block of Grand River Avenue.

Dunnings said the person he believes to be the victim of the domestic assault charges also took out a personal protection order, or PPO, against Carmack the day after the incident. He said he believes the two had dated in the past.
