Journalism senior Jesse Wiza said she spends a lot of her summer days listening to music in preparation for her show, “Sit Or Spin.”
Wiza, the music director at Impact 89FM, said she scored that job by showing her commitment.
“I worked really hard as a DJ and showed that I loved the station and was willing to put in the time,” Wiza said. “I mean I’m glad I did, because I really love radio and it’s what I want to do.”
Wiza said she always had an inkling that she’d do something with radio.
“One of my biggest strengths is public speaking and I love music,” she said. “Radio just seemed like the best choice for me.”
Currently, she said her favorite genres include folk, chillwave and soul music.
“I’m such a sucker for soul and older sounding things that are reminiscent of Motown,” she said. “We probably have more soulful songs in rotation than we should, but no one has complained.”
Wiza said her largest payoff is feedback from the listeners.
“When someone tells me they were listening to the radio station and they found a band that they really liked because of the Impact, it makes me so happy to know that my work here is actually making a difference.”
