Butterfield to be renovated

July 17, 2012

In May 2013, Butterfield Hall will close for about a year to undergo construction and safety upgrades.

It will be closed in the 2013-14 academic year. At that time, fire safety technology will be updated, including sprinklers and fire alarms.

All of the furniture in the residence hall, both in the dorm rooms and the common living areas, will be replaced.

There will be no building additions, and the hall is expected to reopen for the 2014-15 academic year.
MSU Physical Plant University Engineer Bob Nestle said this is the last residence hall that will be renovated in Brody Complex Neighborhood.

“Those buildings haven’t had any substantial changes to them since they were built in the late 1950s,” Nestle said. “They were getting pretty dated in that aspect, and this will bring them up to today’s standards.”
