According to a press release from the East Lansing Police Department, the ELPD received a 9:24 a.m. call from an East Lansing neighborhood reporting a missing 25-year-old suicidal man and a missing handgun from the residence.

The ELPD received another call at 9:59 a.m. at Glencairn Elementary School, 939 Harrison Road, where the deceased was found on a playground and identified as the suicidal man.

The handgun was located near the victim, and according to officer Bill Mitchell, the death is an apparent suicide.

Glencairn principal Andrew Wells said a teacher first found the body lying in tall grass behind the school. Eight students reportedly saw the body before police arrived.

An officer who arrived assessed the situation and determined there was no need for a lockdown. Wells said he sent out a message to parents saying they could pick up their children from the school if necessary.

A section of the schoolyard has been roped off.

ELPD said neither students nor teachers were in any danger.
