Students now can utilize a new business that would deliver food to their door from restaurants that typically do not offer those services.

Straight2YourDoor, an online delivery service operated out of an office at 2875 Northwind Drive, opened last Monday, bridging the gap between customers and local restaurants that don’t have an option for delivery.

“Students aren’t great at cooking, don’t have time to cook, don’t care to cook,” owner Jasem Yousuf said.

“Freshmen, sophomores living in the dorm; the cafeteria is OK for a few weeks, and then they’ll want to branch out.”

For an additional $3.99 delivery fee, customers can place orders online or through a calling center based in Texas. The order will then be sent to a driver’s phone, who will then pick up the food and deliver it to the customer. At the moment, the East Lansing location has four drivers employed, but Yousuf expects to have upward of 20 by the time the business gets into full swing.

He said the company’s Ann Arbor location has seen over a 100 percent increase in business during the past year, and he expects the East Lansing location to be just as successful.

“Eventually, once the location is at its peak, this will be a bigger market (than Ann Arbor) just because the downtown Lansing area would increase business,” Yousuf said.

Max & Erma’s, 2515 Lake Lansing Road, is one of 13 restaurants that has partnered with Straight2YourDoor to connect with customers who may prefer delivery.

“Having a delivery service, we’re able to reach different places,” Max & Erma’s General Manager Brandon Schultz said. “Not everyone has transportation out here, or the time to come out to eat and go back to get the orders in.”

He added one of the main reasons the restaurant elected to work with Straight2YourDoor was to reach the student customer base.

However, advertising senior Chris Peterson said although the option for delivery from a variety of restaurants might appeal for some people, the delivery cost was a bit steep for his tastes.

“There’s a lot of other alternatives, and four dollars is a lot,” he said. “It could be handy if you wanted to get some of your favorite food delivered to your door, but it’s just not for me.”
