MSU basketball player Derrick Nix was sentenced Thursday to serve 24 hours of community service and pay $853 in court costs and fines before Judge Richard Ball in 54B District Court, according to the Detroit Free Press.
After Nix was pulled over at the intersection of Abbot and Lake Lansing roads, Nix was charged with possession of marijuana and operating a vehicle with the presence of drugs and was arrested 12:20 a.m. April 3.
Nix, who was reinstated to play for the team this upcoming year by head coach Tom Izzo, pleaded guilty to impaired driving under the influence of marijuana April 12.
Along with the fines, Nix also must attend a victim impact panel for Mothers Against Drunk Driving and between eight to 12 sessions of a substance abuse program.
Nix, a potential team captain next season, averaged 8.1 points and 3.8 rebounds during his junior season.
